Upper Brookfield Community Resilience Hub

A local place for connection, information and essential support during storms, bushfires, power outages and community disruptions.

Upper Brookfield Community Hall has served local residents since 1934. As our community faces more frequent storms, floods, heatwaves, bushfire conditions and power disruptions, the Hall is working to strengthen its role as a practical, welcoming and accessible community resilience hub.

The aim is simple, when the power goes out or communications fail, locals have somewhere familiar to gather, charge essential devices, access information, check on neighbours and coordinate community support, use fridges for food storage, use air-conditioning in heat waves for elderly/vulnerable community members

With the right upgrades, the Hall could support the community with:

  • Basic lighting during outages

  • Phone and device charging

  • Backup internet or communications

  • Local information sharing

  • A safe place for neighbours to check in

  • Space for volunteers and community support

  • Refrigeration for essential food supplies

Proposed upgrades

  • Solar panels

  • Battery storage

  • Backup communications

  • Essential power circuits

  • Energy monitoring and management

  • Reverse cycle AC and Hepa filter for bushfire smoke

  • Internet

  • Bidirectional EV charger to utilise community electric vehicles as additional power supply.

These upgrades would help the Hall to keep operating when the grid or phone networks are disrupted.

Please note - The Hall is not an official evacuation centre unless formally designated by the relevant authorities.
In an emergency, residents should always follow advice from emergency services, Brisbane City Council and Queensland Government alerts.
